This is a journal of my writings about the fortunes of the Sydney Swans over a number of seasons. Why write it? Why not? In hindsight, I would say, it provided me with an outlet for many of the emotions, which lots of footy supporters would feel during seasons. It is interesting to behold them as a collection, as I can see aspects about their nature more clearly than when read singly and in episodic fashion. What whingers we are, fanatic footy fans that is. How much we care about the fortunes of our teams, especially when you realise that we place so much into the hands of young players we don’t really know. It is illogical, of course, but that is the nature of such tribal allegiances like barracking for a footy team.

Give me a break, this must be a whole battalion of buzzing beasts in your guts – talk about nervous energy! Flash forward to the immediate aftermath of complete scoreboard annihilation and players staggering around in a daze of defeated shock. One side is crying with joy and the Swans are shedding tears of real pain and frustration at not being good enough again. Not by a long shot!

This is a collection of my writing about the Sydney Swans over the period 2021 to 2026. It culminates with the worst sex crime allegation scandal ever to hit the club.

Isaac Heeney has gone from children’s book inspiration to tabloid sex crime fodder. Right now, his reputation stinks so much you would not wrap fish n chips in the printed matter. “
