Of course, the Sydney Swans AFL club is much more than one man, albeit a blonde superstar with panther-like marking ability and an innate sense for a goal. The Swans were the virtuous footy club in the AFL. A transplanted entity from South Melbourne into Sydney soil. Football clubs are not usually moral places, anymore than other parts of town, but the Swans built their reputation upon doing the right thing and being seen to do the right thing. Good corporate citizens and all that. That their best players and the No1 rated player in the whole AFL at the time would lead a coterie of star senior players to their moral and commercial doom was an unlikely scenario, to say the least.

This journal follows the fortunes of Sydney over a period of 5 years from a rusted on supporter’s view in the cheap seats. It captures the highs and lows of Black Swan Grand Final events and some of the good times too.
