Do Not Prop Up News Corp, Please
I do not want Australian tax revenue to prop up News Corp. The Albanese government’s plan to incentivise Meta, Google, Apple, Tik Tok and other big tech platforms and corporations to fund the Australian media sector is, as it stands, a bad idea. Do Not Prop Up News Corp, Please. New Corp is a loathsome entity responsible for Sky News Australia, Fox News, The Australian newspaper and several other capital city newspapers in Australia. This organisation is run by a rabidly right wing individual, Rupert Murdoch, who has been responsible for the dangerous polarisation gripping America. The editorial line taken by these networks and papers is, invariably, blatantly one sided and inflammatory. News Corp is bad for Australia, as it sews division and peddles distorted misinformation about issues like global warming and the energy transformation happening here. You will not find a single positive article about renewables anywhere on their platforms.
Australia Deserves Better Than News Corp
It is a crazy idea for a Labor government to be complicit in a plan to maintain the funding of outdated and soon to be obsolete business models like the newspaper business and commercial free to air television. Claiming that they are doing this to fund Australian journalism is a stretch, as there would be better ways to achieve such a thing which did not involve organisations like News Corp. If we, as a nation, are going to progress toward a better and fairer future for more Australians we do not want to prop up divisive old ways of going about things. Let’s leave behind the lies and the stuff we are seeing right now about Israel as victim in a conflict where 45, 000 Palestinians have been killed in a genocide in Gaza. The coverage in News Corp papers and programs cries antisemitism at every opportunity like the boy who cried wolf.
Bullies and murderers claiming victim status is the new stratagem for neocons. The racism is so blatant it wreaks.
No Government Funding Indirectly Aimed At News Corp, Please
Anthony Albanese needs to stop trying to maintain some artificial status quo and grows some courage to go beyond what was. Because what was downunder was not that great in terms of the Australian media landscape. Oligopolies are not what consumers want. Media concentration is shit and what we want is more choice and a diversity of voices. Not the same white skinned, blokey, crap filling the air waves. The nation has changed demographically and it would be great to have a media which represented that. I do not want to see potential Australian tax revenue going toward propping up a dysfunctional and unrepresentative status quo. We need Albo to lead not follow.
