Does Australia Want To Be A Vassal State?

Does Australia want to be a vassal state of the United States of America? The AUKUS submarine deal puts us in that invidious position. The Trump regime is rapidly taking the US down paths that modern Australia does not agree with. Donald Trump is a racist and white supremacist. Trump is a convicted felon and has spent decades doing dodgy deals with nefarious groups and individuals. The administration of Donald Trump is behaving in ways that are anathema to what we in Australia expect of our governments and leaders. The depicting of China as the bogeyman of the geopolitical world is an American invention. The US is frightened of a level playing field, economically and militarily. We, in Australia, need to ask ourselves who and what is the real evil in today’s world.

“A former top Pentagon official has urged Australia to give the United States more “concrete” commitments on how it would deploy Virginia-class nuclear powered submarines in the event of war, as the Defence Minister Richard Marles arrives in Washington DC for high level meetings with the Trump administration.”

Australia As US Vassal State

Reports that our involvement in AUKUS should make us follow the US into its wars on this basis are worrying. Donald Trump has made concerning references about invading Greenland and Canada to achieve his expansionist ambitions in this regard. The Trump trade wars with the entire globe are introducing a pervasive aggression to international relations per se. Do we really want to be the vassal state of a country run by a despot? Are the outdated, innate racist views of Anglo-settler states going to determine our foreign relations in the 21C? The genocide occurring in Gaza and Israel right now should be illustrative of the perils of white settler apartheid behaviour toward brown skinned Indigenous peoples – the Palestinians. Australia and the US share historical genocidal behaviours by settlers and the state toward their First Nation’s peoples. Donald Trump is actively whitewashing the historical record in this regard at American museums via new policies re-what displays can be exhibited in terms of content around American history. This right wing push to deny the depth of dark stuff perpetrated by white skinned folk upon brown skinned people is front and centre with the Trump regime in the US.

Extremist America Not The Ally Australia Wants

The Trump regime is clearly unstable and may well self-destruct in the not-too-distant future. However, until then, Australia would be best advised to suspend or ditch the AUKUS arrangement. Do we really want to be funding the military of a nation state we do not align with, apart from the colour of the skin of our Anglo-settler forebears? Does Australia want to be a vassal state of the Americans? Their world view does not have to be our own. Progressiveness is, in fact, the only way forward. The backlash driven culture wars of Trump have been rejected by the Australian electorate at the last federal election. Peter Dutton is politically no more thanks to the Trump influence upon him and the Liberal Party. An independent Australia, like Canada, can make its own way in the current climate, without having to be beholden to the US. It only takes courage and smarts. Let us stop wasting billions of dollars on submarines, which will likely never eventuate anyway.

“In Australia, we have always looked to America for ideas and inspiration. Indeed, our business community models itself on the US via importing their CEOs and MBAs. The push from the big end of town and the LNP Coalition is, invariably, toward making this nation more like the USA. Former PM Tony Abbott tried to privatise higher education, thankfully, unsuccessfully. The Libs have wanted to kill off Medicare for some 50+ years, again, thankfully, without success. Peter Dutton, the unseated former Liberal leader of the opposition, brought out Donald Trump’s campaign director downunder to assist with the last federal election. This proved not to be a great idea for Peter and the party.”
