For many decades, America has been the cultural Capitol of the world. The super power led the way via popular culture – movies, music and celebrities pumped out an influential message across the globe. Corporations quickly cashed in and expanded the merchandising opportunities. Now, we live in a world chock full of corporate concentration. Just 5 companies control more than 90% of the major media platforms in the United States. That means that a few individuals are holding the reins of power when it comes to what we watch on screens. Have you noticed that we have all become economists over the last 30 odd years? That economic-speak has become the lingua-franca of our modern world? We talk about the supply and demand of things, the dollar value of everything, and make all our decisions based upon economic principles to a large degree. This has not always been so. In Australia, we have always looked to America for ideas and inspiration. Indeed, our business community models itself on the US via importing their CEOs and MBAs. The push from the big end of town and the LNP Coalition is, invariably, toward making this nation more like the USA. Former PM Tony Abbott tried to privatise higher education, thankfully, unsuccessfully. The Libs have wanted to kill off Medicare for some 50+ years, again, thankfully, without success. Peter Dutton, the unseated former Liberal leader of the opposition, brought out Donald Trump’s campaign director downunder to assist with the last federal election. Send a message and don’t buy American. If you want to do something about the crooked and corrupt regime taking hold of the United States via Trump 2.0 use your consumer power. The Canadians are doing it. And I am sure the European Union will follow suit in the very near future, as they come under fire from the Trump tariffs. Stop feeding the beast and cut off your monetary supply to US companies. Do something about what is happening over there rather than just gnashing your teeth. Burst the bubble of the blowhard dictator by the economic means available to you. Sanction the US economically for crimes against decency, morality, and democracy.Continue Reading
