I recently visited my relatives on the west coast after many years’ absence. We are all getting on in years and I would not describe my family as political in any real sense of that word. I was shocked at the level of vitriol expressed in regard to what is happening in the United States. My take on this is that ordinary Australians are disgusted by Trump’s America. The dysfunctional nature of Washington DC and wanton cruelty happening in the US, under Donald Trump, has Aussies upset. American cop shoots Australian journalist in LA. The LA immigration riot was the setting of  what looked like a deliberate act by an LAPD officer firing upon and hitting a Channel Nine journalist with a rubber bullet. Is this an act of war? Extremist American cop firing on a member of the press in a scene reminiscent of what is happening in Israel. The action showed a complete lack o f respect for the role of the international media covering an event of this magnitude. Donald Trump is not right in the head. We all know this and yet, perhaps, like the emperor’s new clothes, some of us are loath to admit it. Trump’s behaviour toward Zelenskyy is a clear illustration of this. Accusing the victim of Putin’s Russian invasion of his country of being to blame is batshit crazy. Still, people around Trump are enabling his unbalanced behaviour and outlandish statements by normalising it. Dealing with the deranged dictator of America is having a terrible effect upon the whole world.
