Australia Remember What 10 Years of The Coalition Brought Us

It is important to note that economic and political cycles do not usually coincide. Australia remember what 10 years of the Coalition brought us. There is a considerable lag between policy and outcomes. A decade of the LNP Coalition federal governments saw the acceleration of housing unaffordability in Australia. Now, you might think that inflation driving up the prices of residential property is a good thing and your chance to get rich, but home owners, I have spoken with, see it differently. They invariably say, that sure having your house worth a lot of money can appear to be wealth but if you sell it you just have to go out and buy another one which is equally as expensive. Housing affordability has jumped from 5 times annual income up to 13 times in Australian cities, according to respected economic journalist Alan Kohler.

A Decade Of LNP Coalition Governments Produced Outcomes

Like inequality in Australia between rich and poor dramatically expanding. This is due to policies which produce winners and losers, rather than looking out for all Australians.

“Inequality has been on steroids in Australia over the last decade with new data revealing the bottom 90% of Australians receive just 7% of economic growth per person since 2009, while the top 10% of income earners reap 93% of the benefits. The data shows a radical reversal on the long term trend from the period between 1950-2009 in Australia. Australia is a now global outlier in the maldistribution of gains from economic growth, falling behind the EU, US, UK, China and Canada.”

The neoliberal economic policies of the Coalition, which favour privatisation enriches the few over the many. Tens of billions were spent by the Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison governments on consultancy firms like PwC and the public service was stripped. We are seeing Trump and Elon Musk savagely strip the civil service in America now and the corruption that sets up for with no oversight agencies and Inspector generals in place. Privatisation means no transparency and funds funnelled to insider mates and jobs for the boys flourishing. Neocons encourage negative stories about government financial waste and criminality to prepare the ground. This propaganda in the right wing media is never backed up with any actual proof but the right wing media are notoriously lax about fact checking.

Australia Is Dominated By Right Wing Media

Fact checking is just too woke for News Corp platforms like Sky News Australia or The Australian newspaper.

The complete absence of any objectivity in their coverage of the news in Australia is mind boggling. Partisan political hacks from the right grandstand inflammatory stories with little to no fact checking for accuracy. Australia has less and less standards when it comes to the media in the 21C.

Don’t Forget Robodebt Australia!

The highlight or lowlight of 10 years of Coalition federal governments was the ideological attack on the welfare state called Robodebt. Scott Morrison, the greatest liar Australian politics has ever produced. Perhaps, downunder’s ode to Donald Trump? Morrison bragged about being a welfare cop on the beat going after dole bludgers and welfare cheats. This illegal programme was based on the incorrect assumption that half a million Australians. Yes, 500, 000 Aussies owed big bucks to Centrelink. This was proved to be wrong and illegal but still ran for 6 years. Vulnerable Australians killed themselves out of despair. Financially, it cost us tax payers $1.8 billion in a settled class action against the government. However that figure would actually be much higher in the billions after a Royal Commission and NACC enquiries – which are still ongoing. This was Coalition gold in the f*** up stakes. Australia remember what 10 years of the Coalition brought us.

Coalition Inaction Over 10 Years In Power

  • Australia is in the grip of a severe housing crisis and 10 years of LNP inaction on this score set the country up for it.
  • There is an organised crime black market tobacco frenzy worth billions and billions of dollars occurring in Australia. The Coalition did nothing to deal with this during their 10 years in power. These billions are funding more serious organised crime like buying weapons, sex trafficking, paedophilia rings, violent crime, and online scamming. Plus, the excise duty money that should be going to health and education is going to crims in the billions.
  • A decade of inaction on an energy policy during the global warming crisis because of the LNP Coalition being ideologically opposed to  renewables for political purposes. Fiddling whilst Rome burns.
  • Making a balls up of accusing China over the pandemic resulting in billions lost in trade sanctions for years – until the Albanese government came in and fixed things.
  • The AUKUS ‘worst deal in the history of Australia.’ We get to pay the Yanks $368 billion with no guarantee of ever actually getting a nuclear submarine and it will take decades until we may or may not have submarines to defend our national security. Plus, transactional Trump will be no real friend to Australia!
Coalition Promises

Now, we have Peter Dutton promising to spend a further $800 billion on 7 nuclear reactors. Something which we have no expertise or experience with and which we will get mightily ripped off, as all first time buyers invariably do. Nobody is going to do us any favours here. The LNP have said that they will manage these projects themselves. This is the mob that brought you Inland Australia Rail and Snowy 2.0 both projects are tens of billions over budget and behind schedule. I do not want these inept beginners building anything as dangerous as a nuclear reactor in my state or country.

Peter Dutton promising to match Anthony Albanese’s’ $8.5 billion spend on Medicare wont happen. If you believe that the political parties that tried to kill off Medicare for 35 years will revitalise it, then you believe in fairies.

Dutton has been the most divisive Opposition leader we have seen. He voted against every cost of living measure brought in by the Albanese government. Don’t get me started on the lies and disinformation peddled by him during the Voice referendum for Indigenous Australians to be empowered. Talk about a sorry day.

Australia remember what 10 years of the Coalition brought us.
