When reviewing Australian gun laws, we should realise that the world has changed greatly over recent decades. The advent of social media and the digital technology which makes it possible, all American inventions, has consolidated human thinking and in effect made the world smaller on this basis. Australians are no longer predominantly governed by local ideas and culture. The world has been infected with much of the conspiracy driven distrust of institutions, so prevalent in the United States, and Australia is no exception. Experts estimate that there are, currently, 4 million guns in Australia.
The Failure Of Australian Gun Laws At Bondi Beach
The majority of these guns are not, as some assume, in the bush in the hands of farmers to use for pest eradication purposes. No, they are possessed by those living in metropolitan areas. There are gun owners who possess and are licensed to own hundreds of guns. These are not dealers, but merely firearms enthusiasts. Guns are not toys for big boys or girls and should not be viewed in this way by the authorities in charge of them. They are deadly devices capable of making killing human beings much easier. This has been, once again, illustrated terribly to us all by the Bondi Beach shootings of unarmed and innocent people. These gunmen had 6 firearms that they used upon the 15 murdered and many more wounded. This was a failure of our existing gun laws and their application by authorities.
“Sajid Akram — one of the two shooters who killed 15 people at Bondi Beach on Sunday evening — had a category AB firearm licence, and was legally in possession of six guns, according to the NSW police commissioner.
This licence, obtained for “recreational” usage, entitled him to an uncapped quantity of certain kinds of rifles and shotguns.
Footage from the attack shows Akram and his son kitted out with at least a shotgun, two precision rifles, and ammo belts. NSW Police is still investigating whether the six guns found at the scene were all registered to Akram.”
Gun Owning Aussies Infected By American Extremists
In the reviewing of Australian gun laws, we would be well advised to pay attention to what is happening in the real world. I watched a recent video of Neo-Nazis training in Australia. In this video, these men all carried guns, which looked like automatic weapons, and they were being trained in the use of such weapons. Sovereign Citizens, another imported American cult, have murdered in cold blood Australian police officers in Victoria and Queensland. One of these mass murderers is still at large. All of these incidents involved multiple firearms, which facilitated the killing of unsuspecting police. Do not tell the families and loved ones of these victims that the recreational rights of hobbyists are more important than the lives of their sons, daughters, husbands, and wives. The truth is that there are disaffected Australians being radicalised by extremist Americans online, as we speak. These are not Muslims, but Right Wing, often, white supremacists who laud gun ownership through the prism of their distrustful views. This is a real and growing problem for Australia in the age of social media.
It Is Time To Tighten Gun Laws
People are entitled, within a western democracy, to think what they like. The very real danger arises when those at the extreme edges are armed with firearms. It only takes one episode of mental breakdown, relationship rage or the like to push some over the edge and if they are in possession of a firearm – you know the rest. Think about the case of the alleged murderer, who was just released on a technicality and is awaiting a retrial. The former Jetstar pilot who allegedly killed a camping couple and then, burnt their bodies to cover up his crime. This man was armed with a gun and that was the murder weapon. Personally, I don’t want to go camping with my family knowing that there are armed and dangerous blokes out there. Again, this alleged murderer would be far less likely to kill folk if he was not armed with a gun. I don’t want blokes with guns hunting where families go camping.
Recreational rights are not more important than the safety of the rest of us. Go and find some other hobby! Play golf if you want to aim at targets.
We all have to obey drink driving laws, in recognition of the danger that vehicles on the roads pose. Guns are deadly weapons, not toys for big boys. Get the unnecessary guns out of the hands of Australians. Dystopian American fantasies are no reason to own firearms in Australia. Toxic masculinity is no reason to own a gun. No your penis does not look bigger whilst holding a gun.
“You know, I see quite a few of these YouTube videos where Americans compare stuff to what happens in Australia. It is not these that peak my interest, but rather that the global Americanisation is so ubiquitous. Everything about modern life is largely the same in the western world. Have a think about the computer age and where that originated. The internet and social media are American inventions. Smart phones are a big part of this and they too are a US innovation. Beyond this, to more prosaic trends and think about working out, bigger muscles and tattoos. These too, are American cultural shifts, which occurred over the last couple of decades.”
