In politics you are either moving forward or trending downward. PM Anthony Albanese, the surprise success story of the last few years, has seemingly stopped reaching for progressive momentum. His Labor government has the largest federal parliamentary advantage in Australian history. Indications are that his government is more about defending the status quo than actively making things better downunder. The trouble with thinking that you are representing more people is that you get into appeasement mode. Governments and their politicians begin to make their priority staying in the job rather than pushing for change. Albanese is in appeasement mode, it seems.
PM Anthony Albanese’s Political Thinking
Albo is a political animal. That he managed to slay Peter Dutton was, perhaps, a surprise to him as much as it was to the media and many Australians. The divisive Dutton had the misfortune to time his run for the top job just as US President Donald Trump was pissing off Australians with tariffs. My reading of the Labor PM’s political thinking, apropos now, is that he knows that he has the progressive vote in his pocket because there is no electoral alternative for them – the Greens and Labor end up Left of centre together when it matters. Albo and team are intent on minimising damage by appeasing the right wing vote wherever possible. This means more of the ‘small target’ strategy that got him the job in the first place. Making nice with the Israel lobby in light of the Bondi shooting fits into this reading. Not overtly offending Donald Trump, despite his blatant lawlessness, is more of this appeasement like behaviour.
Albo Is No Progressive Hero
The shame of this positioning with regard to Trump, is that many ordinary Australians would appreciate someone standing up against the dark forces of greed, cruelty and corruption manifest in the Trump regime. Canadian PM Mark Carney is doing that for Canadians and now, it seems, for the world following his speech in Davos. Meanwhile, Albo keeps his head down and remains a small target. Similarly, PM Keir Starmer in the UK is another Labour government leader pretending that the elephant in the room does not exist. These two leaders on the progressive side of politics are disappointing, to say the least. Albanese is in appeasement mode on the world stage.
Power Elites Enabling Trump
When will these elites realise that it is their appeasing behavior that facilitates and enables the Trump phenomena to continue? The GOP in America make Trump possible via their craven behaviour around him. These congressmen and women exhibit no honour whatsoever. An absence of integrity the size of a dark star’s black hole exists in the Republican party. It is apparent that these folk fail to recognise their outward showing to the world. Sell outs to their ambitions for power and the added wealth they can accrue at the same time, they portray the dark side of politics. You cannot find a Republican with any gumption or an iota of decency within them. America has reached the bottom of the barrel with this lot. The GOP’s January 6 revisionism, despite the fact that some of these congressional folk were terrified of the mob bashing in their doors and windows on that fateful day is appalling. Jim Jordan’s testicles had shrivelled in fearful response on Jan 6 and now, he blithely lies about that day in cravenness to Donald Trump. These are the lowest of the low human beings.
Stop Being A Small Target Albo
Meanwhile, back downunder PM Albanese is in appeasement mode. Making nice with Donald Trump whilst Rome burns. ICE agents kill in cold blood American citizens. Trump’s military illegally invades Venezuela. President Donald Trump threatens Greenland with every mob boss trick in his book. He disparages European NATO forces for their efforts in Afghanistan. This from the draft dodging Trump, who never fought anywhere. You have to stand up to bullies, appeasement does not work.
The world is looking for heroes willing to stand up for what is morally right against the corruption and cruelty of Trump. Apart from Mark Carney, they appear very thin on the ground at the moment. Have a think about the kids growing up and what they are seeing and thinking about this increasingly evil epoch.
Australia Wants A Political Hero
“Anthony Albanese does need to pull his finger out and take a leaf out of Canadian PM Mark Carney’s book. A Maple leaf, perhaps. Most Australians abhor Donald Trump and Albo should ride that wave for all its worth. Progressives would appreciate a hero standing up for what is morally good, rather than forever being a small target. Many of us are disgusted by what we read and watch about Trump daily – it sucks the life out of things having this bloated buffoon ripping off billions in broad daylight. The United States has been a huge disappointment, in the failure of its institutions to stand up and make this guy accountable. Attacking Venezuela illegally to steal its oil. Threatening Greenland and Denmark. Insulting Canada and the whole world. Putting huge tariffs on allies and trading partners, again totally illegally. ICE murdering American citizens. It is a fucking nightmare, really. #AlboStandUpToTrump.”
