There is no rise of the popular Right in Australia, as incorrectly suggested by some. What there is, is a battle for the Far Right vote between the waning Liberals, the Nationals and One Nation. The LNP federal Coalition between the Libs and the Nats is unravelling, as we speak. Metropolitan Australia has rejected the hard Right, Trumpist views and policies of the LNP Coalition expressed at the last federal election. The Libs were decimated in metro Australia giving Labor the largest parliamentary advantage ever. Former leader Peter Dutton was sent packing, losing his seat and getting his party thumped mightily.
Right Wing Parties Fighting Over A Losing Vote Nationally
The Liberal party has been attempting to regain the moderate centrist vote by electing their first ever female leader, Sussan Ley. It is a hard road to travel back because extremists like Tony Abbott and Pete Credlin have been poisoning the party for years toward Murdoch and Trump inspired Far Right values. Toxic masculinity oozes out of this version of the Libs like untreated sludge from the poo farm. One Nation is crowing about becoming the party of choice on the Right downunder but Australians are never going to elect these old, ugly politicians to the top job. There is no rise of the popular Right in Australia. The mainstream media in Australia is very right wing, however, with News Corp controlling things. They are forever beating up biased coverage of the Right. The ABC is scared of its own shadow these days, more at home with the weather than anything else.
Old & Ugly Divisive Politicians Hold No Appeal For Gen Z
Take at look at the future by checking out the polling of younger Australians. Old white men and women are not going to appeal to the population centres in the cities. Pauline Hanson can visit Mar-a-Lago all she likes, young Aussies in the city are not going to vote for her. We are not like the United States, where wrinklies seem to have the eternal inside running in the political stakes. Australia has an informed, vibrant electorate and younger women are not afraid to vote for their own interests. Metro Australia is a multiracial mixing pot and the white supremacist views of One Nation do not appeal to the majority of younger voters. They would like to leave behind the divisive, political game playing antics of the recent past. There is no rise of the popular Right in Australia.
“The Australian Election Study (AES) is the leading study of political attitudes and behaviour in Australia. The study has surveyed voters from 1987 to 2025, providing an unparalleled source of evidence on voter attitudes towards politics in Australia. The AES provides insights into what explains voters’ choices in elections as well as public opinion on a range of policy issues. In addition to providing a long-term perspective on stability and change in the Australian electorate, the AES examines the issues and personalities in each election and evaluates their importance in shaping election results.”
Toxic Masculinity & The Hard Right Hold Bugger All Appeal
The Australian electorate booted out Tony Abbott and Peter Dutton. These right wing warriors are on the nose downunder, politically speaking. The disgruntled, anti-immigration folk, who wrap themselves in our national flag and play the blame game amid the politics of grievance are a minority. Far Right white supremacists have no place in our society in the 21C. Turning the clock back to a time, when small minded people went around slagging off Aboriginal people and migrants is not the future of Australia. Donald Trump is an aberration and will not last. #DumpTrump is trending. Get ready for a huge progressive swing in America as backlash to Trump. There is no place for the kind of bullying, cruelty and blatant corruption Trump embodies here or anywhere.
Albo Needs To Stand Up
Anthony Albanese does need to pull his finger out and take a leaf out of Canadian PM Mark Carney’s book. A Maple leaf, perhaps. Most Australians abhor Donald Trump and Albo should ride that wave for all its worth. Progressives would appreciate a hero standing up for what is morally good, rather than forever being a small target. Many of us are disgusted by what we read and watch about Trump daily – it sucks the life out of things having this bloated buffoon ripping off billions in broad daylight. The United States has been a huge disappointment, in the failure of its institutions to stand up and make this guy accountable. Attacking Venezuela illegally to steal its oil. Threatening Greenland and Denmark. Insulting Canada and the whole world. Putting huge tariffs on allies and trading partners, again totally illegally. ICE murdering American citizens. It is a fucking nightmare, really. #AlboStandUpToTrump.
American Corporate Concentration Killing Us
“For many decades, America has been the cultural Capitol of the world. The super power led the way via popular culture – movies, music and celebrities pumped out an influential message across the globe. Corporations quickly cashed in and expanded the merchandising opportunities. Now, we live in a world chock full of corporate concentration. Just 5 companies control more than 90% of the major media platforms in the United States. That means that a few individuals are holding the reins of power when it comes to what we watch on screens. Most folk spend more than 10 hours per day watching screens.”
