It can be a sad fact of life that as we age our lives become less in some sense. Perhaps, it is just that the hopeful factor thins, as the balance of time remaining tips the other way? Things like your tribal allegiance to barracking for your footy team can, somehow, become more important, as family grows up and leaves the nest. All of this preamble is trying to get to the point, which is that the Sydney Swans have seriously let me down on the very eve of the finals. And not just a single player but the cream of the team. And not via anything that has happened on the field of play. Rather, it is something, so insidious and unexpected that it has been hard to believe. The Sydney Swans stars shit on everyone else. What for? A mindless good time? Vanity? Ego?

If I told you last week that the squeaky clean Isaac Heeney, you know the blonde bombshell with the Colgate smile, would be indulging in illicit sex in a Melbourne hotel room post-game with women picked up in a bar. Many would not believe me. That this transgression also involved Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, James Jordon and Riley Bice would carry this further into the realms of fantasy in the minds of many. Unfortunately, this alleged sexual assault by star Sydney Swans players is the real deal. All 5 players have now been banned from representing the club for the rest of the season, including finals.
Say Sayonara Swans To Final’s Success
The Sydney Swans will finish the 2026 AFL home and away season in 2nd spot on the ladder. The finals start in 2 weeks’ time. 3 of these 5, now club-banned players, are the best players in the team. Heeney is the Vice Captain. Warner and Heeney were walk up All Australians, I say were. The shame factor of what they have been rubbed out for, bringing the AFL into disrepute by their actions, may well see them dumped from official AFL recognition in this manner. The AFL is about community standards and their corporate sponsors. Those corporate sponsors and the broadcast deal pay the million dollar wages of these players.
These stupid, stupid, stupid football players have no idea what they have brought down upon themselves, their club and the whole AFL. It is pretty hard to fathom the WTF???? In this entire shit show.
Sydney Swans Supporters Betrayed By AFL Club Stars
As a longtime Sydney Swans supporter, I feel betrayed by the very guys I have been vicariously caring about for years. The irony is galling. I would like to know whose idea it was to bring the women back to their hotel room? There is always one instigator in this kind of thing. Whose bright idea was this leap of faith? Faith in that they would get away with it. Faith that in Melbourne, the hotbed of AFL, they could have illicit sex with local young women without getting caught or, indeed, caught up in the messy business that sex always is. Obviously, alcohol was involved, excessive drinking by young men who don’t drink much is a very bad idea. High on the post adrenaline of playing an AFL match, then combine it with booze. Maybe illicit recreational drugs too? Common sense and smarts have, obviously, gone out the window a long time ago in this situation. Animal behaviour has taken over, the smell of sex, desire and breaking all the rules. It all seems so bloody natural at the time.
Hubris Icarus Heeney Flew Too Close To Something
The interim result and consequence is highly damaging to their AFL careers. My guess is that one or two of these players will never recover from this and it will prematurely end their AFL careers. You can guess who these 2 are? For the Sydney Swans club it has and will sour its relationship with these star players. Prepare yourself for players moving to other clubs, as the honeymoon is over folks. The culture has been shat on by individuals who think they are bigger than it. If I feel betrayed, imagine how Brodie Grundy and Errol Gulden feel? How about the ageing unfulfilled, premiership wise, Swans players like Dane Rampe and Jake Lloyd? The rest of the entire team who have worked their guts out all year, only to have these arseholes, these selfish fuckers, undermine their season and screw them proper. No one will forgive these guys, not deep down. Superficial forgiveness, in time, but they will never forget. The Sydney Swans stars shit on everyone else.
The Trouble With Lauding Star Players
This is the problem with a culture that overly lauds star players. It is like the lead singer in the pop band problem – getting all the attention. AFL is a team sport, but the media makes its bones by pissing in the pockets of the more prolific ball winners. Idolising talent poisons the well. Sydney gets categorised as an AFL side dependent upon its star players more than most teams. Bigheads expand to the stage where, these, none too smart athletes, decide they can break all the team rules. Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner decide they can walk on water. I mean, the media tells them this constantly. Don’t believe the hype, boys! You have feet of clay. Maybe you have been schooled on the stories of NRL players indulging in group sex with celebrity groupies? So, some bright spark thought let’s try it in Melbourne, when we are away from home. How is that looking right now fellas?
AFL Media Pumping Up Star Power Tires
“AFL commentator David King blows hard over the stars of the game. King rhapsodises about these star factor players in his puff pieces masquerading as expert punditry. It is akin to the lead singer of a pop band getting all the acclaim, as the media ignores the rest of the musical group. Of course, without the bass and drums there is no band. Likewise, without the other footballers in the team there is no winning combination. Focusing on individuals is what PR machines and the media always do, it is the easy option when telling stories. It is not the real story though. It is one of the reasons why America is in the shit right now, with a lying, cheating king called Trump running the show. AFL is a team game not an individual pursuit.”
Daggers Out
It is interesting to observe the media pack baying for blood in situations like this alleged sexual assault by Sydney Swans players on the eve of the finals. The Greek chorus loudly repeating the same accusations and pointing the finger. “Who is to blame?” “Does the club have a culture problem?” “What’s the beat? Tell me what is happening” Journalists who tire of having to ask the same inane questions of footy players day after day, finally get to go for the jugular. All that supressed envy can be turned around and the daggers are out for Caesar. Time to cut a few overly good looking types down to size! Tall poppies, we hack em off, along with their heads.
