A Generation Of Australians Have Grown Up Weak believing in US might

Baby Boomers have grown up under the misapprehension that the United States of America was there for us. A generation of Australians have grown up weak on this basis. When exactly has the US come to our aid since WW2? The answer is never. On the other hand, how many times has Australia answered the call from America? Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq and Pine Gap of course. Australians have learned to see our subsidiary role to the US as payment in advance for any serious threat upon our shores. ANZUS was invoked after 9/11 and for the invasion of Afghanistan.Continue Reading

Original Sin is a provocative title for Jake Tapper’s and Alex Thompson’s new book about former President Joe Biden. It alleges that a cover up of sorts took place to largely hide the mental incapacity of Biden for great chunks of his time at the top. Now, the Trump Republican opposition and Fox News continually pointed the finger at Biden’s age as a problem during his time in office – so it was not some big secret. However, it was denied by the Democrats and the White House in particular. Joe Biden’s original sin. The zombie like performance in the June 2024 presidential debate against Donald Trump confirmed the worst fears of some in the Democrat camp that Joe Biden was too old and mentally unfit to go again. Public pressure was brought to bear and Biden pulled out.Continue Reading

circus themed birthday

You know, watching the Donald Trump circus in America is pretty amazing. What did a commentator say recently, ‘hire a bunch of clowns and you get a circus,’ It is like someone has gone around and purposely brought together the dumbest bunch of people to run the country. It is the complete reversal of centuries of collective intention to attract the best experts in their fields for this national purpose. Now, you have law breakers serving as Attorney General and DOJ officials. Trade and treasury departments devoid of economists. Health department heads who know nothing about public health.  It is the biggest shit show ever assembled in Washington DC and Trump is never off camera for longer than it takes to take a crap.Continue Reading

jsc2020e031677 - Don't buy American

The apple never falls far from the tree. The Elon Musk story involves Canadian Nazi party grandparents and emigrating to apartheid South Africa to align with a regime living the white supremacy dream. Elon Musk progeny of Canadian Nazis. The shadow President of the United States begins to look more and more worrying. No wonder he is going around assuring German far right party supporters of his shared best wishes for their rise to power. What a wicked web this invidious fellow has weaved. Unchecked wealth and power revealed to be rotten at the core.Continue Reading

President Trump Calls Astronauts During First All-Woman Spacewalk (NHQ201910180019)

Donald Trump is not right in the head. We all know this and yet, perhaps, like the emperor’s new clothes, some of us are loath to admit it. Trump’s behaviour toward Zelenskyy is a clear illustration of this. Accusing the victim of Putin’s Russian invasion of his country of being to blame is batshit crazy. Still, people around Trump are enabling his unbalanced behaviour and outlandish statements by normalising it. Dealing with the deranged dictator of America is having a terrible effect upon the whole world. People look to their leaders to provide stability and security – Trump is incapable of providing this.Continue Reading

Tucker Carlson

Vladimir Putin has been actively engaged in manipulating the USA through the dark arts of digital disinformation for at least a decade. Russia manipulating American democracy via social media and having bought Trump some time back is going swimmingly. A brief look at the state of the Republican Party and the Trump candidacy for President can confirm that. America has been split down the middle with progressives on one side and the MAGA led conservatives on the other. The cosy coalition between MAGA and Putin’s Russia would strike cold warriors from the 1950’s as completely bizarre. Americans backing the military aspirations of an eastern demagogue and his police state is what we appear to be seeing. WTF?Continue Reading

feminist placard with a cat face and a slogan

The truth is that governing is a mixture of boring details and long hours – it essentially involves a lot of deal making. The truth is too boring. To engage the voting public in the political system those charged with the task make up a bunch of contentious stories. They craft a narrative where a group of people are to blame for many of the frustrations that the dominant cohort experience in their lives. Exaggeration is the order of the day when it comes to pinning the tail on the donkey or scapegoat. Emotive issues are called upon to rile up sections of the electorate. Gay people or the more collectively referred LGBTQIA are often in the crosshairs of the conservative minded parties. Gender identity and sexual preference are Rubicon’s not to be crossed in the minds of many. Therefore, these folk get the blame morally and, also, economically because diversity costs money according to the straight and narrow batting for the social conservatives. This all appeals to the very un-Christian like hardline Christian groups who maintain an exclusive door policy as to who gets into their idea of heaven.Continue Reading

person holding a sign

If you dip into American political history you are confronted with a whole bunch of surprising anomalies. America is so ideologically fraught and vulnerable to domestic propaganda. The riven polarising state of politics in America today is not as unusual as some commentators make out. Perhaps, it is more a reflection on the general ignorance about America’s past that we get this emphasis today. Political leaders have been lying to and manipulating their citizens for the life of the nation. Trump’s lies are legion but they are nothing new in the political framework of the United States.Continue Reading

man standing on stage facing an american flag

I spent some time listening to Rachel Maddow’s ULTRA podcast last week. This production was very well done and worth taking the time to engage with. The use of the original voices from the Library of Congress lent ULTRA some much needed gravitas, I think. This is aural entertainment on a grand scale and endowers this slice of American history with some creative buzz. The narrator has a great voice and Rachel Maddow takes the listener on a journey back in time firmly held in her vocal embrace. The podcast production tinkles with all the bells and whistles of a radio soap from yesteryear, which was the desired intention, I am sure.Continue Reading
